About the Service
In some cases when restoration procedures such as root canal therapy, crowns, or fillings are not enough to save a tooth, it may need to be pulled, or extracted. It is the last option and Dr. Farr and our staff in a Gentle Family Dentistry will try everything before it comes to extraction of the tooth.
Nevertheless, if it comes to tooth extraction, you shouldn’t be worried. The procedure is far less painful than ever before. You are given the powerful anesthetics and sedatives and you experience little or no discomfort. Before a tooth is extracted, the area surrounding the tooth is numbed with a local anesthetic. Sometimes it is required a use of antibiotic, after the procedure, to ensure that infection doesn’t occur.
Thera is certain precautions that should be taken after the procedure. Smoking, vigorous brushing, and rinsing are not advisable and may cause the wound to open. Cold compresses applied to the outside cheek near the extraction area can help reduce any swelling and promote faster healing. Don’t worry Dr. Farr will go through all post-procedure treatments with you.
Wisdom teeth are the third and final set of molars that usually appear at about the age of twenty. However, there are numerous cases when happen they appear later. Most people experience some problems because of the wisdom teeth, usually, because the teeth erupt too close to existing permanent teeth, causing crowding and/ or improper bites.
If wisdom teeth are causing a problem and are not pulled, they can sometimes become impacted. Impacted wisdom teeth can be extremely painful, as well as harmful to your oral health. If this is the case call us immediately and make an appointment!
